Cossano Belbo

Cossano, nomen locis of Latin derivation is certainly related to the morphological features of the site. 2 the interpretative hypotheses: Cos Sanus (Cos-Rupe added to Sanus-Sana), or from the verb coxare ( the clash of the stream Belbo against the cliff). The first document in which the country is named "COXANI" è l'Editto Imperiale di Ottone III° datato 31 July 1001, which confirms a feud with the Marquis Manfredi Oldrico, the territory that goes from Santo Stefano Belbo in Murazzano.

Cossano Belbo has ancient origins of the archeological findings of funerary stelae, necropolis and the remains of ancient Roman roads paved. He climbed to the headlines the medieval 4 March 1274 con la battaglia tra esercito astigiano e quello fedele a Carlo d'Angiò. The events focus on medieval Marquis of Busca. In more recent times Cossano has made a significant contribution to the Resistance with the formation of the 2nd division Langhe and titled in the main square Pinin Balbo, 1^ medaglia d'oro della guerra partigiana.
